Care home evacuated after late-night fire

RESIDENTS were evacuated from a care home at midnight while firefighters tackled a blaze in a store room.

Three crews spent about 90 minutes at the building on Westfield Road, Parkgate, on Wednesday morning.

All residents were safely out of the building and the fire was confined to a room under some stairs,

A spokeswoman for South Yorkshire Fire & Rescue said the cause of the blaze was under investigation.

Firefighters from Aston station were called to Gray Avenue in Swallownest at 10.20pm on Tuesday after wood and rubbish were deliberately set alight.
