Burglary liar pays the penalty

A WOMAN who claimed she had been burgled while she was asleep has been fined for wasting police time.

A ROTHERHAM woman who claimed she had been burgled while she was asleep has been fined for wasting police time.

She was given an £80 fixed penalty notice after reporting that a man had got into her home and stolen a Nintendo 3DS and money.

But South Yorkshire Police say evidence on the man’s mobile phone proved that the 33-year-old Brinsworth woman had asked him to sell the Nintendo for her.

Det Sgt Mick Fletcher said: “Police take matters such as this very seriously.

“We investigate reports of theft thoroughly and it is disappointing that some persons feel that they can try and cheat the system by making false allegations.”
