Attempted burglary foiled by homeowner

POLICE have warned people to be vigilant after three would-be burglars fled a garden after being spotted by the homeowner.

The men, described as being of medium build and wearing hoodies and tracksuit bottoms, were seen in the back garden of a property on Scholes Lane just after midnight on Saturday.

They appeared to be trying to get access to an outbuilding but ran from the property when they were disturbed by the owner who contacted police.

Nothing was taken and the men left the scene on foot and headed into nearby woods which can be accessed from the Wentworth, Thorpe Hesley and Kimberworth areas.

Officers are currently reviewing CCTV and advised people to ensure that their properties, especially garages and sheds, are secure.

Anyone who saw a group of men acting suspiciously in the Scholes Lane area should contact police on 101, quoting incident 572 of July 2.
