Arsonists strike ten times over bank holiday weekend

FIREFIGHTERS tackled ten deliberate fires around the borough over the bank holiday weekend.

One crew from Rotherham station attended a grass fire on Doncaster Road, Dalton at 8.50pm on Friday, leaving ten minutes later.

At the same time a crew from Dearne station tackled a scrub fire on Pearwood Close in Goldthorpe, leaving at 9.20pm.

At 9.10pm a crew from Rotherham station attended a grass fire on Highthorn Road, Kilnhurst and left at 9.30pm.

Dearne station responded to a shed and fence on fire at Grey Avenue, Swallownest at 7.15pm on Saturday, leaving around half-an-hour later.

A crew from Cudworth station put out a small fire in the open at Linthwaite Lane, Wentworth at 5.20pm on Sunday, leaving at around 6pm.

Firefighters from Aston attended another small fire at Silverdales, Dinnington at 7.30pm on Sunday. They left at around 8pm.

Cudworth staff also put out a small fire on Moorbridge Crescent, Brampton Bierlow at 8.40pm on Sunday, leaving at 9.30pm.

A Rotherham crew spent around 15 minutes at a refuse fire on Canklow Road, Canklow after being called at 3.50am on Tuesday.

A crew from Tankersley tackled a wheelie bin fire on Sheffield Road, Hoyland at 10pm on Monday, leaving after 15 minutes.

One crew from Maltby attended a car fire on South Street, Thurcroft at 11.40pm yesterday, leaving at midnight.

Two crews from Rotherham station also attended an accidental fire in Letwell at 6.20pm on Saturday.

A portable cabin was on fire in a yard — crews left the scene at 7pm, with no injuries reported.
