Arrest after Rawmarsh road closure disturbance

POLICE have arrested a 20-year-old man after a disturbance closed one road on the Manor Farm estate, Rawmarsh yesterday (Tuesday 3).

Officers were called to a house there at 1.05pm after neighbours reported concerns for one resident’s welfare.

A police spokeswoman confirmed that one person was threatening to harm themselves and that Haugh Road was closed off while negotiators talked with them.

Chief Supt Jason Harwin tweeted about the incident as it unfolded. He said: “We are currently dealing with an incident on Wild Ave #Rawmarsh.

“Please avoid area if possible. There’s no immediate risk to other people.”

Police arrested the 20-year-old man on suspicion of affray, cultivation of cannabis and possession of a controlled drug more than six hours later, at around 7.20pm.

He was cautioned and released this morning (Wednesday 4). The spokeswoman confirmed that nobody was injured.

She added: “The incident was contained quickly with no immediate risk to the public, but officers would like to thank local people for their patience and co-operation while the situation was resolved.”
