Armed raid terror as robbers threaten shop staff with hammer

SHOCKED staff at a village shop were threatened with a claw hammer during an armed robbery.

Police are investigating the raid at the Co-operative store, in Rotherham Road, Great Houghton at 6.20pm on Monday.

A spokeswoman said: “Staff reported two men threatening them with a claw hammer.

“Both had their faces covered and were wearing hoodies with the hoods up.

“They fled the scene on foot with cigarettes and cash.

“No-one was injured, but staff were distressed” by the incident.

One suspect is described as around 6ft tall, of medium build and wearing a blue or grey hoody with black gloves and scarf.

The other man was around 6ft 3in tall, of slim build and wearing a green hoody, black gloves and a dark mask.
