Appeal after biker hurt in head-on smash

A MOTORCYCLIST suffered multiple fractures in a head-on smash on the Dearne Valley Parkway yesterday.

The 55-year-old man, from Goldthorpe, is believed to have been overtaking a black Citroen Saxo, which was in a line of standing traffic.

Police said the Saxo is reported to have performed a U-turn in the road, hitting the motorbike and knocking it into oncoming traffic.

The black Suzuki bike collided with an orange Ford Fusion travelling away from Goldthorpe in free-flowing traffic.

The motorcyclist is currently being treated at Barnsley Hospital.

The Saxo driver, a 26-year-old Goldthorpe man, and the 57-year-old Ford driver, from Thorpe Hesley, were unhurt.

Anyone who witnessed the 5.30pm incident or can assist officers is asked to contact South Yorkshire Police on 101, quoting incident 864 of March 1.
