5. Joanne Kaye: Jailed for seven years, six months on March 12, 2026
An “out-of-control” woman left two former partners with facial fractures during a four-month violent rampage. In one attack, 48-year-old Joanne Kaye locked her ex-girlfriend - complainant one - in her house, and spent around eight hours reigning blows down upon her. The eight-hour ordeal was one of four attacks carried out by Kaye after the pair split up. While on bail, Kaye went on to assault a second former partner, after she bumped into him in Barnsley town centre and they drank together. Complainant one said the attacks left her in no doubt that Kaye was “capable of killing me,” in her statement to the court. Jailing Kaye for seven years and six months at Sheffield Crown Court, Judge David Dixon: “When you did use violence, it was as if you had lost control…when you do lose control the risks are monumental.” He handing her an extended licence period - bringing her total sentence to 10 years - to protect the public after classifying her as a “dangerous” offender. He added: You had the benefit of being granted bail on a number of occasions but you continued offending. You knew what you were doing, and you did it, did it, and did it again. | SYP

6. Lewis Parker: Jailed for 23 years on February 19, 2026
A “violent and dangerous” Sheffield man who slit a man’s throat with a Stanley knife in a pub has been jailed for 23 years. Lewis Parker, of Keppel Road, Shiregreen, was already on bail for two separate violent assaults in pubs when he took the box cutter out with him into Hoyland town centre on March 14, 2025. It was there in a Market Street pub he said something to upset a woman, who was defended by her 45-year-old partner - who Parker, at the time aged 21, then looked in the face and told “I’ll kill you.” Out of fear, the other man threw a punch and a brawl broke out in the pub, with three of Parker’s friends jumping in. Parker was forced outside and had the opportunity to walk away - but, instead, he re-entered the pub, drew and extended the Stanley knife hidden in his pocket, pushed a bouncer out the way who was blocking his target, pulled back his victim’s head, and cut his throat. “It is by sheer chance he is still alive today,” said Her Honour Judge Sarah Wright at Parker’s sentencing at Sheffield Crown Court on February 19, 2026. Judge Wright ruled the 22-year-old was ‘dangerous,’ which carries an extended sentence, saying: “Anyone who sees the CCTV from the public house that night will be rightly appalled by your deliberate action to cut the throat of your victim. “You are a violent young man who poses a high risk of causing serious harm to others.” Parker was jailed for 23 years, with an extended licence of three years. He must serve two-thirds of his time before being considered for parole. | SYP

7. Mark Warren: "Monster" jailed for 14 years over domestic abuse
Mark Warren’s victim was found by police in a flat with a “deformed” head and swollen, “purple” eyes amid blood-soaked walls and flooring, with a blood-stained cricket bat lying nearby. After being taken to hospital, his injuries included a “largely detached” left ear, a “partially detached” right ear and a brain bleed. Sheffield Crown Court heard the male had been injured while protecting a woman during a violent outburst at Warren’s flat. However weeks later Warren brutally beat a woman in a separate attack - strangling her three times and causing a brain bleed. His female victim later described Warren as the “devil” and a “monster”. Judge Jeremy Richardson KC told him: “You are a man of violence, indeed, habitual violence. You visit acute levels of violence upon anyone who effectively crosses you.” Jailing Warren for 14 years with a five-year extension period, Judge Richardson told Warren he had previous convictions which he could not ignore, including “high levels” of violence to partners. He said: “I have come to the conclusion that you are a dangerous offender - in my judgement it would be perverse to reach any other conclusion. You have, in two separate incidents, indulged in serious acute violence.” Warren, of Morland Road, admitted wounding with intent and intentional strangulation. He was ordered to serve 14 years in custody as part of the 19-year extended sentence and handed an indefinite retraining order. | SYP

8. Jayne Bladen: 17-year jail term for Barnsley slasher
Twenty-year drug user Jayne Bladen, 58, used a large kitchen knife on her victim - leaving her with a collapsed lung during the attack in May last year. Sheffield Crown Court heard Bladen was off work at the time with a hand injury when she became “exceptionally intoxicated” with two friends, hammering down vodka and cocaine in the lead-up to the attack. Judge Graham Reeds heard how minutes prior, Bladen’s victim had awoken on May 7 last year to find the defendant “ranting” at herself and another male guest, accusing them of “robbing” her. After police - alerted by a “concerned” postal worker - attended, the male guest fled the address. However Bladen then locked the door, telling her petrified victim she was “going nowhere”. Curtis Dunkley, prosecuting, said the defendant then struck the woman to the head with a vodka bottle before calling police, telling them she was going to “murder this c***”. Addressing Bladen, Judge Graham Reeds said: “You made the decision for whatever reason to attack her. You armed yourself with a large kitchen knife, you sat on top of her on the sofa and stabbed her in the chest.” However “luckily”, added the judge, the police returned soon after. The court heard shocked officers found Bladen on top of the complainant with a knife in her hand while body-worn footage showed the defendant’s face “contorted with rage” as she was arrested. Bladen, of Gate Crescent, admitted attempted murder. She was jailed for 17 years and ordered to serve at least three-quarters of the term in custody. | SYP
