Countryside creations to brighten up farming festival

CHILDREN have been preparing countryside creations for their big public debut ahead of a village’s festival of farming figures.

St Margaret’s Church in Swinton hosted a two-day workshop where holidaying youngsters made mini scarecrows and painted full-size scarecrows which will be on display from today until Sunday.

Individuals, local groups and businesses have been invited to build and display a scarecrow in the festival and this year’s them is The Best of British.

Prizes will be awarded for the best scarecrow entries in the various categories, including a children’s category.

The highlight of the festival weekend will be a traditional town fair on the Vicarage field tomorrow afternoon with activities for all ages.

Fr Chris Brading, the curate of St Margaret’s Church and chairman of the organising committee, said: “Last year we had around 80 entries, and we are hoping for even more this year, especially scarecrows which can be displayed outside.
