Councillor urges people to help Mexborough gunshot investigation

A COUNCILLOR has urged people to help the police track down whoever fired shots through a terraced home window in Mexborough.

Mexborough First councillor Andy Pickering (pictured), who sits on Doncaster Council, said he and his fellow local representatives was confident the police are doing what they can to investigate the case.

A gun was fired through the window of the terraced property on Victoria Road in Mexborough at about 9pm last Thursday.

The occupants of the house were moved to a safe location after the incident by police and the property was boarded up.

The incident happened just a day after a gun was fired on Frederick Street in the town following which three men were arrested on suspicion of firearm offences and have now been bailed pending further enquiries.

Cllr Pickering said: “As we understand it, the incident on Frederick Street and the incident on Victoria Road are unrelated.

“Swift action has been taken in both cases with arrests being made very promptly in one case, and the persons at risk in the other have been relocated and are no longer in the area.

“We have been reassured to know that everything is being done by South Yorkshire Police to prevent any further incidents.

“We would however ask anyone with information on either incident to report it to South Yorkshire Police on the 101 number, or anonymously via Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.”
