Controversial landlord plans up for discussion

ROTHERHAM landlords are being urged to have their say on controversial plans to license the towns rented properties.

Landlords, under the name of Rotherham Action Group Limited, are taking the council to a judicial review over its proposals for a new selective licensing scheme in the area.

Rotherham Borough Council plans to apply the scheme to four designated areas of the borough on from May 1.

The National Landlords Association (NLA) has written to Eric Pickles, Secretary of State for Communities and Local Government, asking for the decision to introduce licensing to be overturned and any future decision held back until the new council could hold an evidence based review and further consultation with key stakeholders and local residents.

The NLA is inviting landlords in Rotherham and the surrounding areas to its next branch meeting at the Holiday Inn Rotherham at 6.30pm on Monday, February 23 to discuss the issue.

The meeting is free and open to all landlords.
