Community centre seeking £300,000 cash boost

JOHN Healey has thrown his weight behind Rawmarsh's High Street Centre, which has put in a bid for nearly £300,000 in Lottery funding.

The Wentworth and Dearne MP has submitted a letter of support for the application, to the Big Lottery Fund’s Reaching Communities scheme.

He said: “I have been involved in the centre's work — both as local MP and a dad — since the beginning and was proud to be part of its tenth birthday celebrations recently.

“The High Street Centre is extremely well-known, well-regarded and well-supported by the community.

“But a decade on from its launch it is still very much in need.

“This funding would enable HSC to strengthen its contribution to the local community greatly and help deal with the very pressing problems of lack of work experience, skills and job opportunities and personal and family isolation.”

The centre has applied for a grant of nearly £300,000 over four years which would help meet running costs and enable them to recruit two more workers to help people get into work or education, provide training, set up work experience placements and run activities to reduce isolation
