Collision victim PC had been referred to IPCC

THE police officer who died following a road traffic collision last week had been referred to the Independent Police Complaints Commission after allegedly asking a CSE victim on a date.

Pc Hassan Ali (42), who passed away this morning, ten days after a being struck by a car in Staniforth Road, Sheffield, had been placed on restricted duties prior to the collision last Wednesday (28), while the IPCC assessed whether to launch a full investigation.

Pc Ali was a neighbourhood policing officer based in Rotherham and had 18 years' service with the force.

It is understood that one complainant — a victim of sustained abuse in her teens — alleged that Pc Ali had first asked her out when she was 17 and again when she was 21.

Paying tribute to Pc Ali ahead of his funeral at the Industry Road Mosque, Darnall, Sheffield, at 1.30pm today (Friday 6), Chief Constable David Crompton said: "All of our thoughts are with Hassan's family and on behalf of the force I would like to offer my sincere condolences at this incredibly difficult time.

"Pc Ali was a well-liked officer whose colleagues are devastated by what has happened."
