Clampdown on Rotherham fly-tippers

FLY-TIPPERS have been warned they could face a fat fine or a jail term as reports of dumped rubbish soar.

An Advertiser investigation revealed that more than 2,300 incidents have been reported since last April.

Fly-tipping cuplrits can receive a fixed penalty fine of £80, a fine of up to £50,000 at the magistrates’ court, an unlimited fine at the Crown Court and a prison sentence of up to five years.

And head of Streetpride David Burton warned: “Even a vehicle registration can be enough as fly-tipping is the responsibility of the car’s owners and I can assure you that wherever possible we will prosecute.”

Recent items reported via the website fixmystreet.com as being dumped include: sofas on Harley Road, Harley, and the A57 at Aston, a fridge dumped in Jumble Lane, Thorpe Hesley and several sacks of butchered animal carcasses at Hawk Hill Lane, Brampton Common.
