Charity's appeal to save selfie sticks and singing socks from scrapheap

Don't sling out your selfie stick, give it a new home, says Barnardo's.

SICK and tired of your selfie stick?

Why not donate it to a children’s charity?

According to a poll carried out by Barnardo’s, the most popular and fastest selling Christmas gift of 2014, the Selfie Stick (pictured), was considered to be one of the worst presents to receive this year.

Almost half of those surveyed said the gimmick gadget was bottom of their wanted list, with musical socks (43 per cent), and bathroom scales (35 per cent) also scoring highly.

But they must appeal to someone, so Barnardo’s urged people not to bin their unwanted gifts and hand them in to charity shops instead.

Steve Oversby, Director for Barnardo’s in the Yorkshire and the Humber, said: "Many of us may have received a festive gift this year that we didn't like or was unsuitable.

“Instead of hiding them in the wardrobe, take them to one of our stores where they can be sold to help make a difference to the lives of thousands of vulnerable children and young people that we work with.

“Our shops are very grateful for all the donations they receive.”
