Charities celebrate grant awards

CHARITIES and community groups based within a single community are set to celebrate as they receive over £1,800 in grants.

Cash from the Big Lottery Fund has been committed to eleven separate organisations in Thurcroft with the help of Rotherham Federation of Communities Ltd (RotherFed).

A ceremony at the at the AGM of Thurcroft Big Local will see a a total of £1,837 handed over to the good causes at Thurcroft Welfare Community Hall between 7pm and 10pm on Friday (16).

The allocated grants include: £170 to Thurcroft Children's Centre to enable a farm visit to the centre; £200 to Thurcroft Toddler Group for families to go out and visit a farm; £200 to Rotherham Talking Newspapers to pay for USB players for the visually-impaired; £160 to pay for speakers at Thurcroft Friday Circle meetings; and £100 to Thurcroft Community Hall Bowling Club to help refurbish the away shelter.

A spokeswoman for RotherFed added: “A new yoga class run by elements Dance and Yoga has also been allocated £200, Tiny Explorers Pre-School £187 towards a story garden project, Thurcroft Parish Church £200 towards the regeneration of the Church Garden, Lifeline £200 towards running a health living course for Thurcroft women and Thurcroft Theatre Group have been offered £120 towards providing music and entertainment in the village.

“This is the first set of grants allocated by the Thurcroft Big Local Partnership.

“A second round of small grants will be available to apply for in February 2015.”

Friday’s presentation ceremony includes a free buffet, disco and a live band
