Cellar scare and furniture set alight overnight

FIREFIGHTERS dealt with an incident in the cellar of a home and two outdoor blazes last night.

A crew from Rotherham station was called to the property on Dover Court Road, Masbrough at 7.50pm to reports of smoke emitting from an electrical box.

Nobody was injured and the crew left at 8.30pm when National Grid engineers arrived.

The team was then called back to Masbrough to Station Road at 9.20pm when an old mattress was deliberately set alight on an abandoned tennis court.

Firefighters were at the scene for half-an-hour.

Cudworth station was called to King Street, Goldthorpe at 10.40pm after a sofa was set alight in the street.

The fire was brought under control within 40 minutes and the cause is still being investigated.
