Celebrity art up for grabs in hospice auction

ART LOVERS have just a few days to snap up a celebrity sketch.

But you won’t know if the art you buy is by a big name or a local scribbler until you’ve paid up.

The Gallery Town online auction is up and running and bids have to be in by next Wednesday.

Pictures have been drawn by the likes of David Cameron, Dame Judi Dench, Brian Blessed, Jilted John, Pulp drummer Nick Banks, artist Pollyanna Pickering, Margaret Clarkson, Julia Donaldson, author of the Gruffalo, illustrator Axel Scheffler and the Earl of Scarborough, as well as many Rotherham students and amateur artists.

All proceeds will go to Rotherham Hospice.

Auction organiser and Gallery Town project manager Ged Jenkins-Omar, said: “It’s been a lot of fun organising the auction and now is the time for everyone to have a go, play detective and bid on the artworks.

“People could pick up a piece for very little and it could end up being worth quite a bit of money.

“Not only that but if they win a celebrities or famous artists work it’s only going to go up in value as the years pass by and when all is said and done, the money raised will be going to help the hospice and future art projects also.”
