Cash machine stolen in forklift raid on shop

A POLICE chase ensued after a group of men used a forklift truck to steal a cash machine during a raid on a village shop.

The suspects made off from the Spar in Tickhill in a Nissan Navara and Ford Focus after the theft at 2.50am this morning (17).

A force spokeswoman said: “A significant number of police resources were directed to the scene and pursued the vehicles.

“It is reported that one of the suspects in the Focus threatened officers with violence during the pursuit.”

The Nissan — thought to have been stolen — was recovered at a caravan site along with the ATM. No arrests have yet been made.

Officers believe the theft is linked to another incident in Stainforth, Doncaster, yesterday.

A spokeswoman added: “A number of similar thefts have occurred across South Yorkshire and in neighbouring force areas in recent months.

“Detectives are working together to establish any patterns or connections.”
