Care home residents grow best in show

TWO Rotherham care home residents from are celebrating after scooping top prizes in a national Wild West-themed Grow and Show competition.

The village fete-style event, organised by Voyage Care, saw people with learning disabilities from across the country travel to Newark Showground in Nottinghamshire, where they enjoyed a day of fun activities and competitions.

Tamara Liburd, from Rotherham’s Edgecumbe House, scooped second prize in the painted pebble category while fellow resident Luke Hood was runner up in the Tray Garden category.

Andrew Cannon, Voyage Care’s chief executive, said the annual Grow and Show Day was a highlight on the calendar, with more than 200 people supported by the organisation flocking to the event.

“This is the fifth year we've held this event and as always, the entries were fantastic,” he said.

“Everyone puts a huge amount of effort into creating something from scratch and it was an incredibly difficult job to select the winners.

“Tamara and Luke should be extremely proud of what they’ve achieved and we're already looking forward to seeing what they come up with next year.”
