Car blown over as Rotherham hit by high winds

A WOMAN escaped unhurt from her car after it overturned as Rotherham was battered by high winds this morning.

Police were called to Nether Haugh to help the female driver of a Citroen Saxo which had been blown over on Stubbin Road at about 10am.

It came on a morning where commuters battled through gusting winds, with speeds of up to 42mph recorded on the Tinsley viaduct.

A window above a shop in Mexborough was also broken as the elements took their toll.

There were also reports of trees blown down in Goldthorpe and Herringthorpe Valley Road, Rotherham.
