Busy weekend for Rotherham fire crews

CONTINGENCY crews were called out 16 times during three weekend strikes by firefighters.

Firefighting specialists brought in to cover during the strike cut free several casualties when seven people were injured in a crash at Wickersley on Saturday evening (3).

A woman in her 90s was taken to hospital after breathing in smoke from a microwave fire at Victoria Close, Kiveton Park, on Friday afternoon.

Other incidents included a rubbish fire at a Kimberworth Park subway and a cooker fire at Rawmarsh on Saturday.

During normal working hours, firefighters attended a car fire on Centenary Way shortly after 7.30pm on Monday. The blaze, involving a Chrysler, was recorded as accidental.

Later, fire crews from Dearne station were called to a chimney fire at Queen’s Avenue, Swinton.

Arsonists targeted a garden shed at Thurnscoe in the early hours of Tuesday and a skip at Rawmarsh on Saturday morning.
