Bus fares to rise by 10p

SEVERAL bus fares in Rotherham and the Dearne will rise next week.

Stagecoach had confirmed that it is introducing a number of changes to bus fares in South Yorkshire.

From Sunday 12 April 2015, the prices of a Dearne Valley Megarider weekly ticket will go up by 50p, while most single fares will increase by 10p and returns by 20p.

Saver tickets are to rise by an average of two per cent, which the firm said reflected rising costs.

But the Dearne Valley Dayrider price has been frozen and there is no change to the Route 22X Megarider or Dayrider, which also cover the 222 between Barnsley and Swinton and service 226 between Barnsley and Manvers.

Other fares which have been frozen include Stagecoach's South Yorkshire Child day ticket at £2, which now includes tram travel in Sheffield as well as bus travel across South Yorkshire.

The weekly Child ticket remains priced at £5 for travel on bus only, with a new South Yorkshire-wide bus and tram child weekly at £6.
