Building society boosts Wickersley community groups

TWO community groups have been boasted by cash windfall from a building society.

Staff at Skipton Building Society’s Wickersley branch handed over £125 each to both Which Craft and Wickersley Family History Group, which meet at Wickersley Library and encourage residents to learn new skills, meet new people and widen their horizons.

Which Craft involves members, many of them among the over-50s, trying out different types of craft activities, and Skipton’s donation will be used to buy glue guns, paints and general craft materials.

Organiser Jane Shore said: “The group was created to introduce residents to new crafts and experiences but it has become more of a social club for people who struggle to meet like minded people.

“This money will ensure we can help more people.”

Mrs Shore’s husband, Philip, who runs Wickersley Family History Group, said: “We are delighted to have received this money from Skipton.

“It will allow us more access time to the library’s computers and resources and allow more residents to learn about Wickersley and their own family history.”

Which Craft is meets on the last Tuesday in the month between 5pm and 7pm while the Family History Group is on Tuesday and Thursday from 5pm to 6.30pm.
