Boys back in action

WITH the fixture list affected by weather over the last few months, Rotherham Boys got back into action with a fixture against a strong Leeds outfit at Phoenix.

The breakthrough came with 15 minutes to go as Rotherham tried to play the offside trap but didn't get it right. Leeds scored and then followed that up by two more quick goals ending the chance of a late comeback.

The U14s fared a little better and, despite poor, rainy, conditions both teams played some good quality football with Rotherham creating some good goalscoring opportunities early on.

Although the hosts began the better team, it was Leeds who finished slightly stronger in a well-contested first half. Keeper Ellis Halpine (St Pius) made two quality saves for the home team.

Rotherham were the stronger team in the second half, again creating chances which were not taken.

With ten minutes remaining Brad Guest (Thrybergh) delivered an excellent corner which Leeds could not clear their lines but Danny Burns (Oakwood) was on hand to score from close range. Rotherham maintained their composure and ended worthy 1-0 winners.
