The author, who is published under her maiden name of Linda Anne Baker, will also discuss the background behind the story and sign copies of the book.

The Sun on Their Backs is described as a story of love, loss, fresh starts and enduring friendships.

Linda (64) began the first draft of the novel six years ago and after writing three chapters was accepted onto a masters degree in creative writing at Sheffield Hallam University.

The mother-of-two said she was inspired to write about the miners’ strike because her family life has been intertwined with it.

“I’m interested in how history affects people’s lives.”

The novel is fictional but has references to historical characters like Arthur Scargill.

Former assistant head teacher Linda said the narrative moves around the country but the story would have more resonance with the people of South Yorkshire.

“I am excited about the launch and I am hoping I will see some old friends, too.”

The book is available to buy on Amazon for £5.99 and on Kindle for £2.99.
