Birthday honours for Rotherham's local heroes

COMMUNITY champions and dedicated public servants have been recognised for their efforts in the Queen’s Birthday Honours.

Irene Hartley, who works in the office of Wentworth and Dearne MP John Healey, is awarded an MBE for services to the community in Rotherham, while Sheila Rigg, of Conisbrough Community Association, is also made an MBE for her dedication to the town.

Frank Knapton, chairman of Mexborough Tenants’ and Residents’ Associations, will also pick up an MBE.

Chairman of the Rotherham NHS Foundation Trust, Margaret Oldfield, has been awarded the OBE.

Job centre manager Marlissa Richards, who manages five Job Centres in Sheffield, Rotherham, Dinnington and Maltby will visit Buckingham Palace to pick up an MBE in recognition of her work for South Yorkshire's social services.
