Laura (27), from Laughton en le Morthern, who teaches dance at Wickersley School, was selected as one of the five winners of Miss Scuba UK last month.

She will soon be travelling to Egypt to learn even more diving skills before one of the women is chosen represent the UK in the international final.

Laura, who is a former Miss Intercontinental England, has been in Paphos in Cyprus and told the Advertiser it was an exciting experience.

She said: “We got back from Cyprus last Thursday and head off to Egypt on October 6.

“In Cyprus we were judged on our dive skills by some instructors. Over six dives we were given tests to measure our buoyancy and navigational skills.

“We had a presentation night with the dive centre who gave each of us an award. Mine was the Diver Improvement Award which I’m really happy about.

“We also had a photographic round judged by two photographers and the make-up artist. We were marked on how modelesque and photogenic we were and for diving marked on improvement, skill and effort.

“We had plenty of time to relax on the days we weren’t being judged on diving and model ability and on presentation night we also got up one by one and shared something about another of the top five girls and it was clear how much we have all bonded.”

In Egypt, Laura will have more photo shoots, some underwater, as well as a beach clean-up with a local kindergarten. The five will also learn about marine biology, marine conservation and more diving skills.
