Bailiffs move in to Rawmarsh angling shop

THE entire stock of a Rotherham fishing tackle shop is to go under the auctioneer's hammer tomorrow after being seized by bailiffs.

Tigra Fishing Tackle was based in the Rawmarsh Shopping Centre, where it had a 3,000-square-foot showroom.

The business also had an extensive Internet sales operation, claiming to be “The No 1 Online Fishing Store,” and supplying discount tackle to fishermen throughout Yorkshire and the UK.

But bailiffs have seized the stock in lieu of unpaid rent on the firm's Rawmarsh premises and moved it to industrial auctioneers CJM Asset Management at Scunthorpe, where it is to be sold in a public auction tomorrow.

CJM director Paul Cooper said: “Tigra were significant players in their field, supplying a huge range of fishing-related products, including tackle by all the major manufacturers such as Carp, Nash, Shimano, Gardner and Pike.

“I’m not sure what went wrong here.

“Many specialist independent High Street shops are being hit by the challenge coming from Internet retailers who have cheaper premises and lower overheads but Tigra were also Internet retailers.

“It could simply be the effects of the downturn in consumer spending. Perhaps fishermen are not upgrading and adding to their kit in the way that they do in the good times.”
