Back bid to help cyclone homeless

ROTARY Club members are urging kind-hearted Rotherham folk to back their bid to help people left homeless by a devastating cyclone.

Rotary members have sent 1,000 shelter boxes and 300 aquaboxes equiooed with tents, waterproof ground mats and cooking equipment to help victims of the disaster in Vanuatu, where Cyclone Pam left 11 people dead last month as it devastated the South Pacific island.

Vinod Burton of the Rotary Club of Rotherham Sitwell said: “All Rotary Clubs in UK donate a certain amount of money each year to replenish the stock of Shelter Boxes which are assembled at a centre in Cornwall, and which are ready to be dispatched as soon as a disaster strikes anywhere in the world. “Last year, our Sitwell club collected money at the Rotherham Show for this purpose.”
