Arsonists torch van and damage nearby cars

A VAN was torched in the early hours of the morning which also caused damage to other vehicles parked nearby.

Arsonists struck on Thicket Drive, Maltby at 3.30am this morning.

A spokeswoman for South Yorkshire Fire and Rescue said the van was well alight when the crew from Maltby station arrived.

Damage was also caused to other vehicles parked near to it, she added.

Firefighters left the scene at 4.10am.

Rotherham station also dealt with two incidents in East Dene.

The first was a rubbish fire on Far Lane caused by arsonists again at around 10.30pm last night.

It took 15 minutes to deal with the incident.

But just two hours later the crew were back in the area on Alpha Road after a Daewoo Matiz car caught fire.

This was due to an electrical fault and the team left the scene at 1.40am.
