Arsonists keep fire service busy overnight

ARSONISTS struck around the borough in a spate of attacks which were dealt with by the fire service.

Rubbish was deliberately set alight on Brecks Lane in Herringthorpe, at around 9pm on Thursday and was brought under control by a crew from Rotherham station within 30 minutes.

Two hours later the crew were called to Moorgate Street where an industrial skip had been torched.

The crew left the scene after 45 minutes.

Around the same time Dearne station was dealing with an arson attack in Goldthorpe on Barnsley Road, where a fence and tree had been set alight.

An unattended bonfire caused a shed to catch fire at Blythe Street, Wombwell at 2.30am this morning.

Dearne staion was at the accidential blaze for 30 minutes and were called back out again to Wombwell at 7am to Station Road to deal with a skip fire.

A cause of the skip fire has not yet been identified.
