Apprenticeships up for grabs at construction firm

A DEARNE Valley firm is on the hunt for new apprentices to help carry out its growing construction contracts.

Denaby-based Senior Architectural Systems Ltd specialises in structural design and supplies window, door and curtain systems to the construction industry.

The company has continued to grow since taking part in a ‘meet the buyer’ event in 2011 which was organised by council-run project Business Doncaster and Wates Construction.

As a result, Senior won a bid to supply aluminium systems to Wates for the construction of the new £10 million Campsmount Technology College.

And the firm is still feeling the effect of winning the major contract.

Mark Wadsworth, commercial director at Senior, said: “It’s fantastic that the ‘meet the buyer’ event enabled us to develop a close working relationship with Wates Construction, which has led to on-going business opportunities.

“As one of the major employers in the area, we already work closely with local colleges and academies to offer students work experience, so we are delighted to be taking on new apprentices, giving local youngsters a fantastic start in life.”

Mayor of Doncaster Ros Jones praised the firm following a recent visit with Cllr Bob Johnson, Cabinet member for regeneration.

She said: “I am delighted to see a local company expanding and taking on new apprentices.

“It is vital that we continue working closely with businesses like Senior, to make sure that local companies are part of the development work that is being undertaken by Doncaster Council and the private sector across the borough.”

Business Doncaster is a partnership of Doncaster Council, Doncaster College, Doncaster Chamber of Commerce, JobCentrePlus and Donbac to provide support to new and existing firms.
