Apprentices tee up for golf challenge

APPRENTICES teed up more than £5,700 with a charity golf contest for the Master Cutler’s Challenge.

Thirteen teams competed in the event organised by youngsters at the Advanced Manufacturing Research Centre Training Centre.

Taking home the trophy — designed at the AMRC — was Sheffield manufacturing firm DavyMarkham.

The challenge sees companies, groups and schools given £50 to increase in six months using teamwork and entrepreneurial skills.

The cash is then donated to various causes and the AMRC team’s total was £7,341.

Apprentice and golf day organiser Edward Allen said: “The Master Cutler’s Challenge is a fun way to raise money for worthwhile causes and our golf day gave some of our apprentices a chance to speak with key figures from industry.”
