Appeal launched to find owners of friendly cat found in Rotherham

AN APPEAL has been launched to trace the owners of an “extremely friendly” cat found in a sorry state on the streets of Rotherham.

The RSPCA was alerted by a resident about the middle-aged, black and white animal when it was found in the Hatherley Road area of Eastwood.

Now named Clint, the forlorn cat was found bleeding and covered with urine stains.

He was collected by RSPCA inspector Ben Cottle-Shaw and taken to Peak Vets in Sheffield for urgent treatment.

The animal charity said his condition seemed to be the result of a serious, untreated flea allergy as he had excessively scratched and rubbed his skin until it had bled.

Vets also said he had possible gum disease and a respiratory infection.

The RSPCA said Clint did not have a microchip or a collar but, due to his friendly nature, it was thought he might be someone’s lost pet.

Ben said: “Poor Clint was in a very bad state and we’re very grateful to the kind people who alerted us to his plight.

“He was suffering from a heavy flea burden and the resulting skin allergy would have been extremely painful and uncomfortable for him. He could have been like this for several weeks.”

Clint is currently in the RSPCA’s Greater Manchester Animal Hospital in Salford.

He is being given further treatment and making his recovery.

“Once again, we’d like to express our thanks to the wonderful team at Peak Vets who made him comfortable with parasite treatment, pain relief and antibiotics,” said Ben.

“I firmly believe he’s owned, or has been owned in the past, because of his lovely friendly nature.

“We’d ask anyone who recognises him or has more information about the circumstances in which he was found, to get in touch with the RSPCA.”
