Anger as Domino’s boss claims Rotherham people “rely on benefits”

The Domino’s pizza takeaway manager, named in a Channel 4 documentary at Taz, made the comment during the programme called Domino’s Pizza: A Slice of Life, which was broadcast on Thursday.

While driving through the town, he says he has struggled to find enough drivers, saying: “Most people here, they just rely on benefits.

“They have working everything, hands, arms, legs...”

Put on the spot over the comments, Domino’s PR team said: “These were purely personal comments and do not represent the opinions of Dominos UK or its teams around the country.”

Despite Domino’s attempting to deflect the blame, the remarks prompted an angry backlash on Twitter, with several resentful Rotherham folk aiming their fury at the pizza company.

Millers fan Martin Beasley told Dominos: “I’ll not be using your company again. I suggest your PR dept up their game, pitiful response.”

Building manager Rob Hadfield wrote: “@dominos so you think most of your customers in Rotherham are on benefits.

“We’re not, we’re both managers! Very offended customers here!”

Former councillor Michael Sylvester joined the condemnation, sending Domino’s a message saying: “Just to let you know like the majority of Rotherham folk I'm on my way to work.

“I will have worked 70 hours by the end of this week & paid my taxes you will not be getting any of my money.”

One Twitter user with the handle @Jason_D_C said: “As a Rotherham Resident - disgusted with your discriminative perception on Roth,

“I work 60hrs 2 jobs and won’t be buying again.”
