Age UK Rotherham offers socks and blankets to elderly as big freeze continues

HANDY tips, useful information and even free blankets and socks are being offered to help keep Rotherham’s old folk safe and warm as the arctic weather contines to bite.

TIPS, information and even free socks are being offered to help keep Rotherham’s old folk safe and warm as the arctic weather contines to bite.

With temperatures barely above freezing during the day and plunging below at night, Age UK Rotherham is urging older people or anyone who knows a vulnerable elderly person to get in touch for a range of free support.

The advice, which is available free to homeowners or residents in rented accommodation includes:

  • Information packs about how to keep warm.
  • Tips and advice on heating homes effectively.
  • Keeping warm packs that include a blanket, socks, mug and a thermometer.
  • Practical help to make sure understand the elderly understand their heating systems and are energy efficient to maximise the warmth and minimise the cost.
  • Advice and information about additional payments and entitlements available for older people including the Warm Home Discount and small grants to help with bills.

Anyone who feels they could benefit from the support is asked to call Age UK on 01709 835214 for further information between 9am and 4pm Monday to Friday.

 

The current cold snap is forecast to continue for some time yet with the Met Office issuing a severe weather warning for icy roads overnight tonight and into tomorrow.
