Advertiser stalwart dies, aged 87
The dedicated production expert retired in 1991 after 50 years with the Advertiser’s owners Garnett Dickinson and 28 monitoring the weekly editions as they rolled off the press.
He put his dedication to a single employer down to “a relationship with people, from the shopfloor to the owners,” adding: “It’s the community of the thing, a family company that flourishes through the generations.”

Hide AdStan, who lived at Boston Castle Grove in Moorgate with his wife Mavis, said on retirement in 1991 that he planned to indulge his passions — bowls, badminton, gardening and big band music.
He also paid tribute to his wife for her “really great support”.
Current newspaper production director Jamie Ollivent, who worked alongside Stan, said: “Stan employed me in the production department back in 1974.
“He had a tremendous amount of patience and was unflappable.”
