Four of South Yorkshire’s Further Education colleges and Sheffield Hallam University to bridge the skills gap
New Level 4 and 5 qualifications take students from Level 3 studies, such as T Levels or A Levels, to qualifications such as higher national certificates, higher national diplomas and foundation degrees.
They have been designed to improve employment prospects, giving students the chance of moving on toe well-paid, long-term jobs. Students over 18 can take advantage, as well as adults looking for a career change.
In September 2022 digital HTQs were launched. Now, a roll-out to 15 occupational sectors is due to be completed by 2025.
Roll-out helped with £1.3m of funding
The transformation of the educational landscape has been helped by £1.3m from the Government’s Higher Technical Education Skills Injection Fund to deliver HTQs in the region.
It will connect with the Lifelong Learning Entitlement, as well as helping the region’s students taking T Levels and other Level 3 courses, to move on to Level 4 and 5 courses.
There are other advantages to HTQs. Because they are led by employers, students can be certain the skills they need are being delivered. And, the Institute for Apprenticeships & Technical Education approve them, ensuring high-quality.
The accessibility of the qualifications is helped because they are eligible for the same student finance as degree level study.
HTQs are available now for studies in South Yorkshire. Find out more about what is available within the South Yorkshire College Partnership Group at the links below:
