Apply now for 2024/25: How Higher Technical Qualifications can boost your career prospects

Four of South Yorkshire’s Further Education colleges are working with Sheffield Hallam University to meet the challenge of delivering much-needed skills across the region. See how they can help you.

Barnsley College, DN Colleges Group, RNN Group, and The Sheffield College are delivering new Higher Technical Qualifications (HTQs) in collaboration with the university to give learners the skills they need in today’s jobs market.

The new Level 4 and 5 qualifications lead learners from Level 3 studies, such as T Levels or A Levels, and provide qualifications such as higher national certificates, higher national diplomas and foundation degrees.

They have been designed to provide a pathway to better employment prospects, with higher paid, more secure careers. As well as offering opportunities to current students, they can also help adults who are looking for a change in their career path.

With the first digital HTQs launched in September 2022, a roll-out to 15 occupational sectors will be completed by 2025 – which is why leaders predict they will transform the educational landscape.

New £1.3m funding for collaboration roll-out

£1.3 million from the Government’s Higher Technical Education Skills Injection Fund will strengthen the delivery of HTQs in the region.

Not only will it support the region’s pipeline of learners taking T Levels and other Level 3 courses, to progress to Level 4 and 5 courses, but it will also connect with the introduction of Lifelong Learning Entitlement.

HTQs offer many benefits. The employer-led qualifications provide the work-ready skills that companies need. They are also are approved by the Institute for Apprenticeships & Technical Education, to ensure a high-quality offering.

The qualifications are eligible for the same student finance as degree level study, making them an accessible and effective alternative route to gain valuable skills and enhance employability.

HTQs are available now for studies in South Yorkshire. Find out more about what is available within the South Yorkshire College Partnership Group at the links below:
