A FORMER Poundstretcher unit in Rotherham town centre could become a restaurant and takeaway, under new plans.

Applicant Mr Parvez has enquired whether full planning permission would be required to convert the unit on Bridgegate.

The premises have been empty since Poundstretcher closed more than five years ago.

Signs were put up suggesting it was set to open as a gym in summer 2022 but the unit suffered damage in the Rhinos fire.

Separate proposals have been approved for 22 flats on the former pub site next door.
