Dug still waiting on new street sign

A HISTORIAN who named new streets on a housing development has been left puzzled by the absence of one of the signs.

Dug Wydell’s suggestions were welcomed when Persimmon was building the properties at West Melton in 2020.

The names Smiths Croft, Hayes Court and Moorhouse Fold were accepted by the house builder — but the street sign for the third one has yet to appear.

Dug (71) said: “I was photographed for the paper in March 2020 with the site agent and the chief house salesperson.

“Two of the three street signs were erected when they were needed as the new homeowners moved in.

“I’ve asked about the third one, but I’ve not been able to get a satisfactory answer.

“It’s six months or more since the last resident moved in and there’s still no sign. My concern is will emergency services lose valuable time looking for these addresses. The residents are also baffled.”

Moorhouse Fold is in memory of Rev William Moorhouse, the first full-time vicar at the Congregational Chapel, which was built in 1798 on Melton High Street.

He served from 1804 to 1837 and is buried with wife Frances behind the church, which is now the United Reformed Church.

Persimmon did not respond to our request for a comment before this week’s deadline.
