Villagers channel Christmas spirit for park celebration

VOLUNTEERS, pubs, and businesses channelled the Christmas spirit to put on a Christmas winter wonderland for their village.

Greasbrough Park was the scene for the seasonal celebration last Wednesday.

Co-organiser Dawn Brunt said: “This is a first-time Christmas community event which has been organised by Friends of Greasbrough Parks volunteers.

“The event has been funded by our local pubs, businesses and large supermarkets.

“We had schoolchildren from Greasbrough and Rockingham schools singing carols, a Santa’s grotto made by a local business, a great band called Grumpah, two real reindeers funded by another village pub and 15 stalls all selling homemade gifts.

“There was also a tombola, spin the wheel and fairground rides.”

Golden tickets were donated to each school so children from low income families could go and enjoy free rides and refreshments.
