You're a bridesmaid . . . but don't forget the bride's the star!

BEING picked as a bridesmaid is an honour and not something to take lightly.

Bridesmaids can play a vital role in keeping the bride stress free and relaxed in the run up to the wedding day.

It is important that they put the bride first and only offer their personal view on colours and styles and themes around the wedding day, if helpful to the bride.

People often joke about bridezillas and although some brides do make unreasonable requests, most brides will be grateful of support and co-operation from their friends.

The bride’s style may not be to the bridesmaids’ taste but it is important to try and remember that it is their day—especially when it comes to the bridesmaids’ dresses themselves.

Picking one outfit for several different people can be quite a challenge - which is one of the reasons that some brides now opt for different styles in the same colour.

Married bridesmaids can be a real bonus with help and advice, but remember to be thoughtful about how you offer your experience—try not to preach about the dos and don’ts of weddings.

Everyone is different and what worked for one, may not work for another.

Bridesmaids will be expected to:

  • Offer general support - be a shoulder to cry on and a smile to celebrate with.
  • Help plan the hen party under the guidance of the chief bridesmaid.
  • Assist guests at the ceremony and reception.
  • Enjoy the experience and be as accommodating as possible.
