FRIENDS and colleagues of comedian Jimmy Carol, who is fighting for life after being attacked in Benidorm, will hold a benefit gig next week — headlined by X-Factor star Sam Bailey.

Jimmy (63), who now lives in Spain but formerly worked the South Yorkshire club circuit, was attacked after a show on July 3.

Ivor Hillman, vocalist in new romantic band My Pierrot Dolls, has arranged the charitable concert at The Trades.

He said: “Jimmy is a good friend, who I’ve known for about 30 years through working the clubs.

“Entertainers are always the first to be asked to do charity work. But we’re always inclined when it’s one of our own who’s fallen on hard times.”

The gig will take place from 7pm on Wednesday, August 1, at the Greasbrough Road venue.

It will be headlined by X-Factor 2013 winner Sam Bailey, who recently completed a national tour of top venues including Sheffield’s City Hall.

Tickets cost just £5 and are expected to sell out very quickly.

Other acts confirmed for the fundraiser are the Echo Beach 80s Show, Rob Linacre Marc Boulton, Paul Morris, Loren Kennedy of Seaside Rendezvous, Joe Rosser, Gina Ross and Here’s Jonny.

Ivor added: “It’s absolutely great to get Sam Bailey singing for us.

“I set the price before we got her onboard — if I’d have known earlier, I’d have charged more.

“Hopefully people will give generously on the night, knowing what a bargain they’re getting.”

Pukka Pies owner Matthew Twigg is sending one of his vans to the venue — all proceeds from pie and peas will go to Jimmy’s fund.

And a raffle an auction will give away prizes including signed sports memorabilia. Visit The Trades or contact Ivor on 07793 563852 to buy tickets.
