World Book Day celebrated by award-winning author’s launch

YOUNGSTERS from three schools will celebrate World Book Day next week by helping an award-winning author launch his latest instalment and playing football.

Pupils from St Gerard’s and St Mary’s Catholic Primary Schools will join fellow students at St Bede’s and dress as their favourite book characters or in football kit on Thursday, March 3.

Peter, who has won the Stockton Children’s Book Award, the Sheffield Book of the Year and the Bedfordshire Children’s Book of the Year, will launch Kruschmeister.

The story is based at the Millers’ former Millmoor ground and follows the adventures of Zac Freeman and his battle with the ghost of a footballer who played 60 years ago.

Coaches from Rotherham United will also visit St Bede’s and run some football coaching sessions with the children.

Amanda Wassell, headteacher at St Bede’s Catholic Primary School, said: “We are all absolutely delighted that Peter will be returning to St Bede's on World Book Day to launch his latest book, Kruschmeister.

“He visited our school last year and the children were truly inspired by his enthusiasm, the stories he had written and the writing workshop he delivered.

“They have really enjoyed reading his novels and are so excited about the launch of his latest book.”
