Wickersley theatre group bids "So long" to the Steeples as founder couple retire

A THEATRE group preparing for its latest production has paid a fond farewell to two founder members.

Keith and Enid Steeple (pictured) are stepping down as chairman and treasurer of Wickersley Musical Theatre Company after 52 years.

Alison Fenwick, of WMTC, said: “The group, formerly known as Wickersley Operatic Society, was set up by Keith and Enid in 1967 when they performed Gilbert and Sullivan’s Pirates of Penzance with a cast made up of local Wickersley residents who were ‘persuaded’ to try something new.

“In the years since, they have gone from strength to strength performing some of the most popular musicals to an appreciative and loyal fan base, thanks to the tenacity of Keith & Enid in keeping the company moving forward.

“The chairmanship of the society has been passed to Geoff Fenwick and Rachel Marshall who are collaborating with the committee to ensure that Keith and Enid's great works can continue.”

WMTC will be performing Andrew Lloyd Webber’s Jesus Christ Superstar at the Rotherham Civic Theatre from February 25 to 29.

Tickets are available from the box office on 01709 823621 or at rotherhamtheatres.co.uk.
