Whiston set for best of brass

Whiston Brass Festival returns on Saturday with 12 bands due to perform.

The music starts at 1.45pm with a brief concert by Frickley and South Elmsall Band, before the contest begins at 2pm.

Described by organisers as Rotherham’s largest free show after the Rotherham Show, the event will also include children’s rides and a fun fair, craft stalls, hog roasts, ice cream vans, BBQ’s and food and drink, plus outdoor bars, tombolas, raffles and competitions.

The day’s events will culminate in a last night at the proms style Brass for All concert.
