KIVETON PARK INDEPENDENT ADVICE CENTRE: A drop-in session, with no appointment necessary, will be held on Thursday 2-4pm at the Welfare Hall in Thurcroft. To contact (office hours) 01909 773966.

 

ALZHEIMER’S AND DEMENTIA MEMORY CAFÉ: Meet first Tuesday of month at Gordon Bennett Memorial Hall 1.30-3.30pm.

 

CRAFT GROUP: 38 members worked on sewing, crocheting, knitting, the jewellery table, die cutting, rubber stamping, decoupage and putting general cards together.

 

BIG LOCAL GALA: August 30 – noon-5pm on cricket field, New Orchard Lane, with Punch and Judy, fairground rides, Laser Quest, five-a-side table football, belly dancers, African drumming band, live music from a local band, fun dog show, birds of prey, and more.

 

PARISH COUNCIL: The next  meeting is on September 24 at Gordon Bennett Memorial Hall 6.30pm.

 

ROTHER VALE COMMUNITY BAND: Practise on Saturdays at St Simon and St Jude’s Parish Church 9.30-11am. New members will be provided with a brass instrument and expert tuition for a weekly subscription of £2. Contact Pam 07759 496810, www.rothervalecommunityband.com.

 

THURCROFT FRIDAY CIRCLE: Connie Shepherd welcomed 14 members to a strawberry tea at the August meeting followed by a game of bingo, won by Audrey Woods, and a quiz, won by Kay Mosley. The next meeting is on September 11 at the Gordon Bennett Memorial Hall when Clive Hollin-Day will talk on Old Postcards. 

 

THURCROFT BOWLING CLUB: Meet every Saturday 10.30am-noon with bowling instruction. Monday – men’s A and B teams 6pm. Tuesday – lady vets 2pm, men’s A and B team 6pm. Wednesday – senior ladies play double 11am, mixed doubles 6pm. Contact secretary Alan 01709 542050.

 

THURCROFT CRIME AND COMMUNITY SAFETY FORUM: The forum is looking for volunteers. If you live in Thurcroft and would be interested in becoming a member, contact the Rother Valley West Area Assembly Team 01709 254145. The next meeting is September 7 at the Gordon Bennett Memorial Hall 1.30-3pm.

 

THURCROFT LOCAL HISTORY SOCIETY: The society is now a free online history site. Contact Thurcroft Library 01709  546150 or call in at School Road.

 

THURCROFT LIBRARY: Every week get expert help on how to get into work. Sessions cover writing a CV, applying for jobs online, apprenticeships and interview techniques. Experts to help with careers advice. Free access to computers and internet. 10am-12.30pm. Free six week course for computer classes on Tuesday mornings – free to attend yet booking essential 01709 546150. Children’s section –pop-in sessions for Rhyme Time, children to 5, Tuesdays 2-2.45pm. First Monday of month, Chatterbooks Mondays 3.30-4.30pm, except during school holidays.

THURCROFT INDOOR BOWLS: Meet at Gordon Bennett Memorial Hall on Sunday and Tuesday 6.30pm to practise and compete at this and other venues during the week.

 

THURCROFT WELFARE BAND: The Training Band will be playing on Sunday at a  barbecue and garden party at Brampton Grange, Brampton en le Morthen 2.30pm. Thurcroft Band practises each Tuesday and Thursday 7.15pm. Training Band practises Saturday mornings. Both train at the Band Room at the top of West Street.
