THORPE HESLEY VILLAGE CHOIR: Meeting every Wednesday in school term-time from 7-9pm at The Trinity Centre, located adjacent to Holy Trinity Church, Sough Hall Avenue, Thorpe Hesley, Rotherham. Adults of all ages welcome.

THORPE HESLEY WOMEN’S INSTITUTE: On August 5 the group held a party in the main hall of the Trinity Centre to celebrate the centenary of the WI. 63 ladies attended including Rev Lynn Broadhead, the new vicar of Holy Trinity Church, and 20 guests from other WIs. Tables were decorated in 1920s style of black, white and silver with ostrich feathers and pearls. Most of the ladies wore outfits that reflected the style of the era. Sheila Lincoln won the prize for the best dressed lady. After the summer buffet there was a quiz on the origins and history of the WI and a quiz on the 1920s.  

 

LOCAL HISTORY GROUP: The group had its second visit of the summer on August 1 when members visited Wingfield Manor House near Wirksworth, the ruin of a late mediaeval palace.
